‘Careless Crime’ to vie at Swiss FIFOG

Geneva Int’l Oriental filmfest in Switzerland is to host Iran’s ‘Careless Crime’.

The Geneva International Oriental Film Festival (FIFOG) in Switzerland is set to showcase award-winning Iranian feature film ‘Careless Crime’.

Shahram Mokri’s film will go on screen at the international competiton section of the 16th edition of the Swiss event.

Going back to forty years ago, the movie’s story starts during the uprising to overthrow the Shah’s regime in Iran.

Then, protestors set fire to movie theaters as a way of showing opposition to Western culture and burned down many cinemas.

In one tragic case, a theater was set on fire with four hundred people inside and most of them were burned alive.

Now in contemporary Iran, after forty years, four individuals decide to burn down a movie theater.

Produced by Negar Eskanadarfar and Karnameh Institute of Arts and Culture, the flick is starring Babak Karimi, Razieh Mansouri, and Abolfazl Kahani.

‘Careless Crime’ was premiered at the Orizzonti section of the 77th Venice Film Festival in Italy.

The film has so far taken part in various global events, including the Sharjah Film Platform in the UAE, the MedFilm Festival in Italy and the Tokyo FILMex International Film Festival in Japan.

The upcoming edition of the FIFOG will host around 40 films of all genres.

As the situation caused by COVID-19 made filmmakers to work in a difficult context, the FIFOG chose this theme to bring them more hope “Hope… a little, a lot, passionately”.

The 2021 edition of the event is slated for June 21-27.
